Cheltenham Festival - Centenary Day

On the Paddy Power website a quick search for Cheltenham opens up a massive array of Paddy power bettingmarkets, 6 pages if them in fact. This is great for a novice like me, it’s like being guided by the hand through the Festival rather than placing bets which are something of a shot in the dark. There a re loads of great doubles which require just a click to bet on – Thistlecrack to Win the World Hurdle & Cue Card to Win the Cheltenham Gold Cup as an example – this is a trainer Colin Tizzard special. There’s a whole host of Willie Mullins specials too, well worth clicking on our link and checking them out. Other Cheltenham Festival Specials on Paddy Power include top trainer, top jockey, number of Irish winners and on and on it goes. We will in the coming days sift through these bets and see where we think the value is, not just bets but free bets and offers.

Turning to bet365, we’re still loving the bonus bet offer up to a whopping £200. Getbet365-app-logo involved by clicking on our link below. The Cheltenham Festival coverage is maybe not as obvious yet on the bet365 site. Click on the horse racing tab on the menu down the left hand side of the screen. Then scroll down to the antepost section. Under the UK and Ireland section, there’s a comprehensive list of Cheltenham Festival races. Check out bet365 enhanced place terms, remember it’s no runner no bet and also bear in mind bet365 are one of the bookies that offer best odds guaranteed.

BetVictor are another of our favourite Cheltenham Festival book makers. I have to say thatClaim Betvictor free bet there website is a really attractive place to look around too. It’s not too loud, loving the colour scheme. Also if you click into the Horse Racing section of the website you only have to scroll down to get a full Cheltenham antepost section to have a good look at. Click on onw of the races and then on the show all selections button and a great choice of specials opens up for you. Really simple, really clear, this is why we love BetVictor. Again there are so many bets to look a t here, this blog would turn into a long list if we mentioned them all. Click on our link to get to BetVictor’s site. We will select a few of these bets over the coming week, again looking for some value.

Latest 17th February this is big news: Champion Hurdler Faugheen is out of the Festival and will not be able to defend his Champion Hurdler title. Massive news for punters, and for trainer Willie Mullins.

So for the second instalment of the Claim Free Bets Cheltenham Festival Novices blog, I thought I’d start by looking at some of the specials that the bookies have started to offer.

A reminder:

New – Cheltenham Festival bets taken after 3pm on Wednesday 27th January on the four Championship races –  Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, World Hurdle and Gold Cup , they are are Non Runner No Bet.

So what to look out for from our favourite Cheltenham Festival bookies?

All three bookies are offering plenty of antepost action:

There are top jockey markets aplenty – with Ruby Walsh and Barry Geraghty leading the way here.

Top trainer markets are also popular – Willie Mullins is clearly the bookies fancy here.

The Prestbury Cup is a new one on me (see I told you I was a novice) anyway it’s the name given to the competition between UK and Irish trained horses and you can back which country you think will have the most.

The sheer breadth of markets has surprised me – for example, even this far out, I can bet on the official going at the festival.

Part 1

I’ll level with you. Part of me writing this blog is me learning about Cheltenham Festival. I’m a novice too. I know a bit – the Irish love it, it’s in March and is the Greatest Show on Turf. Oh and horses, there’s lots of ’em. Ok, there’s Cleeve Hill too, the highest point in the normally quiet Cotswolds. The peace is broken for one week in March when getting on for a quarter of a million pints of Guinness are downed.

I know that here at Claim Free Bets we will have loads of coverage of the best bets offers and tips to guide you through proceedings.

So as well as educating myself, I’ll be hopefully passing on some info to other novice punters too. We will have loads of links to great bookie offers, so make sure you look out for them.

CheltRCFinishPost

Where to start? With the bookies I think. Bear in mind that we are 6 weeks or so from the Festival and more and more offers will appear as we approach the event.

Cheltenham Festival - Centenary Day

The Cheltenham Festival is the highlight of the National Hunt calendar. Many of the cream of British and Irish horses compete at the festival and this coupled with the festival often coinciding with St Patrick’s Day in the middle of March means that the festival sees a massive influx of Irish racegoers coming to the Gloucestershire course.

The Festival takes place over four days – Champion Day, Ladies Day, St Patricks Day and Gold Cup Day. It all gets underway on Tuesday 15th March. The appeal lies in the quality of the action as well as the ‘craic.’ The meeting is liberally sprinkled with top class action and there are grade 1 races throughout the festival. Grade 1 races are the ultimate contests for elite horses. They are open to international entrants, and are ‘weight for age’ races. That is to say that handicaps are not reflective of previous successes but are based on the age and sex of the horse. The Cheltenham Festival has 27 races in total and will see around 500 horses competing for well over £6 million in prizes.

The highlight of the whole Cheltenham Festival is the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the Friday, but there are big races on every day – the Champion Hurdle is the main event on day 1, the Queen Mother Champion Chase on the Wednesday and Thursday’s World Hurdle.

The Cheltenham Festival has many heroes. Ruby Walsh has been top jockey in 7 of the last 8 festivals. In term of trainers, famous names such as Willie Mullins, Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls have dominated recently. And of course the horses. Even a novice like me is familiar with these names: Golden Miller, Arkle, Desert Orchid and Best Mate have all entered National Hunt folklore at the festival.

So between now and day one of the Cheltenham Festival, March 15th, this blog will be updated regularly. We’ll keep you across all the bookies best offers as they release them, there’s sure to be plenty of specials and enhanced odds. There’ll also be plenty of offers for new customers and existing punters alike. Stick with us and you’ll not miss a trick.

And of course if you have any tips for us, we’d love to hear them. Our twitter feed is @ClaimfreebetsUK
